IMPORT DATA FORMATS FOR SIMS APPLICATION
The following tables identify the required format for each record of data that is to be imported into each of the SIMS databases. Entries in boldface indicate indexed fields.
Requirements are:
Each data file must be named with a “.txt” filename extension, must be in ASCII format and be located in the appropriate folder (named "Import" in Windows and "Import/Export" for Macintosh) within the SIMS folder.
Each record must be separated by an ASCII 13 character (carriage return) and each field must be separated by an ASCII 9 (TAB) character. Note that substitutes may be used for these characters, as specified in the System Customization utility.
Null field entries may be specified by including an extra ASCII 9.
Date fields must be specified as M/D/YYYY (similar forms with an order of M->D->Y are acceptable).
If you are Importing data, make sure to note fields that have "Unique" in the Remarks column. This means a unique value is required for the field.
Required fields are Bolded.
When importing data from a text file created by an application other than SIMS, we suggest first exporting a few records from SIMS and then examining the text file formats with a word processor or spread sheet program, as an aid to understanding the SIMS import file formats
