Clearance Level Definitions

SIMS comes with the four standard DoD classification levels as defaults, including Top Secret, Secret, Confidential, and Unclassified.

The user may add to these levels and/or modify the rank ordering, as required, to tailor SIMS to a specific application. Each clearance is assigned a "rank" order so that SIMS is able to determine a clearance being "higher" than another. Ranks are used by the on line error checking to verify a person's clearance is "high enough" for a document, container, etc. More than one clearance can have the same rank number. An example Clearance Definition screen is shown below.

Clicking on the "Sort" to soft the list by Clearance Level, on "Add" to define a new Clearance Level, "Edit" to modify the selected Clearance Level, "Delete" to remove the selected Clearance Level.

If you click Edit you will see this screen.

If you want to Import JPAS data using an Excel file generated by JPAS, you need to assign the JPAS Access that corresponds to your SIMS Clearance Level.

Check Require Witness if a document is destroyed at this classification level and needs to have a witness.

The Reinvestigation Time Period is the number of days from the time a clearance has been investigated until the next investigation is required.  For example Top Secret is 5 years or 1825 days.  You can set the time period required for each clearance you define.
