Quick Lists

SIMS has a number of standard choice pop up fields that have been set up for "Quick Lists", which are efficient ways to creating and storing repeating values for some fields.

Take as an example the field “Document Type” in the Classified Documents database.  When the cursor moves into that field (either by tabbing through the fields or by clicking into that field), a list of standard values pops up.

If you wanted to pick a value way down on the list, you could scroll down and either click on it and then click OK, or just double click on the value.  However, the fast way to do it is to type the first letter or letters of the value - just enough to so that it's automatically highlighted - then press the enter key to select it.

For example, if you typed a 'p' when viewing the list above, the entry 'PROPOSAL' would be highlighted.  Pressing the Enter key at that point would select that Document Type.

Also, if you don't want to put anything in the field or you want to put something else, just press the Tab key to skip the choice list.

Suppose that the entry that you want isn't on the list.  Then you can just click on the Modify button and enter a new value, after first selecting Insert or Append, to determine where in the existing list the new entry should appear.

The next time the list comes up, you should see the new entry on it, sorted so that you can pick it out quickly.
