SIMS provides a comprehensive, yet flexible method for specifying special security accesses as shown below. SIMS comes with NATO, RESTRICTED DATA, COMSEC, CRYPTO, SCI, CNWDI, and WNINTEL special accesses as defaults. These may be removed or additional special accesses may be added, as required.
Special Accesses
A special access can be viewed by clicking the Edit button when the access is highlighted. Any access can defined as pertaining only to specific entities. For example, access LIMDIS could be defined as relating to Document and Contract only.
Special Access Edit Screen
Any special access may be made an "umbrella" by clicking on it and then by assigning one or more individual special accesses to the umbrella. Click on a special access in the "Umbrella Choices" list and click the "Umbrella +" to add to the "Umbrella". Click on "Umbrella -" to remove a special access from a "Umbrella". Umbrella access are noted by the check box in the left column of the special access type.
A special access can be "archived" by checking the "Archived" check box. This will prevent it from showing on the pick lists.
Umbrella accesses are treated similarly to any other in the system. If a custodian has an umbrella access "X" which includes "COMSEC" and "WNINTEL" and a document has "COMSEC" and "WNINTEL" required, the person having "X" has access. However, if the document has "X" and the person has "COMSEC" and "WNINTEL" the person will not have access because "X" may contain other accesses. In this case, the person would need "X" just like the document.
A complete listing of all special accesses and associated billets can be printed by clicking the "Print" button on the definitions window.
